在去年 11 月 Ariana Grande 經歷眾多傷心事，結束閉關之後，在網路上宣布了自己將帶著新專輯 Thank U, Next 和 Sweetener 兩張專輯一起巡迴及和大家分享，並釋出了兩首單曲 7 rings 及 thank u, next 加一首宣傳單曲 imagine，這三首幾乎曲曲精彩，而且也都打破了過往自己的風格，並得到了專輯中連兩首空降冠軍單曲的紀錄
這首 break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored 一開始音樂一下，大家一定就會聽到 7 rings 中的合成器音效，並且仔細聽的話，會發現其實貫穿整首歌都有出現！音樂曲風融和了 R&B 和 Trap 音樂，讓整首歌在凶狠間，略帶性感撫媚及溫柔
MV 的故事是關於三角戀間的關係，一開始 Ariana 走進了一個派對，遇到了男女主角，結果女孩請 Ariana 與他們兩人共舞，Ariana 與男孩兩人開始有些情愫，並邀請 Ariana 到他家派對作客，到了派對卻發現 Ariana 將頭髮染成了跟女友一樣的顏色，兩人幾乎長的一模一樣，男孩的心思也就此被勾走了，派對裡完全沒有看女友一眼，可惜的是 Ariana 從一開始的目標就不是男孩，而是希望男孩和女孩分手，趁機介入感情，和女生在一起
除了 MV 的故事有趣，Ariana Grande 在這張專輯，從前面幾首歌看來就可以知道是和過去的自己及前男友們有關，也因此大家就開始猜想這首歌在寫的是關於誰，目前最有可能的對象是 Big Sean，因為 Big Sean 最近似乎已經和女友分手，而且在 Thank u, next 的 MV 中就說到，still get it，也就是說，Ariana 和 Big Sean 也還保有聯繫，但這一切可能也只有 Ariana 自己知道，粉絲們也都期待著能夠有個正確的解答。
